The meeting was planned for Friday to determine Armidale Regional Council's response to its pending suspension, but was postponed until Monday.

When five councillors indicated they would not be attending the workshop on Wednesday to discuss the council's response, nor Friday's extraordinary meeting, mayor Simon Murray said the remaining councillors decided to move the meeting time.

Today is the final day Armidale Regional Council can respond to the Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock, who sent the council a Notice of Intention to Issue a Suspension Order.

By law, the minister has to give the council 14 days to respond.

At Wednesday's council meeting, a workshop was organised for later that day to discuss the council's response, and the extraordinary meeting set down for Friday to ratify it.

But when five councillors, who have been named as respondents in legal action the council has taken, withdrew from being involved, the meeting time was changed.

In the response to the minister, that the remaining councillors have put together, it does not argue against the suspension, and welcomes the appointment of an administrator for three months.

They also acknowledge that the behaviour exhibited by councillors has been unacceptable, posing a legal and safety risk to the council.

The remaining points to the minister say the community has lost respect for the councillors, welcomes the appointment of an administrator for three months, and that the councillors hope to resume representing the community in the future.

The final part of the motion says the council is committed to working with the administrator to address the issues raised by the Minister in her suspension notice.

Monday's meeting will commence at midday and be the first of two extraordinary meetings.

At 3pm Monday, a second extraordianry meeting will consider the council's Integrated Planning and Reporting 2020-2021.
