But, most importantly, they held the belief they could topple Hillgrove.
Since their victory, sporting codes have shut down their seasons due to the coronavirus and cricket is no exception with scheduled decider for Saturday cancelled.
A decision is yet to be made on how to award this season's premiership across all grades with associations learning of the recommendation on Tuesday.
Armidale District Cricket Association have given clubs who have qualified for grand finals the option of playing at the beginning of next season or joint premiers to be declared.
In Saturday's preliminary final, Guyra were victorious over Hillgrove.
Batting first, Guyra's Shane Wolfenden was the first wicket to fall for eight and then Matt Finlay departed for a duck.
Hillgrove's James Treweeke took 6-12 as Guyra capitulated for 87, BJ Cameron their top run-scorer with 22. With the ball, Guyra struck early.
Mitch Woods removed Matt Schaefer for a golden duck, then BJ Cameron removed the bails in quick succession for Sam Johnson and Matt Baillie to leave for ducks. Andrew Brownlie put up some resistance with 18 but Jake Ellis cleaned him up.
Dick Heagney then fell victim to Tyson Burey for nine before Ellis went back-to-back and was on a hat-trick, clean bowling Treweeke and Max Laurie.
Burey then took the remaining three and Hillgrove were out for 61. Demielle Landsborough filled in as skipper for Charlie White.
"To be honest with you, I think Hillgrove thought they had the match won straight away," Landsborough said.
"That's a fair enough assumption as well.
"But the boys pulled together and had the belief we could get it done on the weekend. We got Matt Schaefer very early and that set the match up."
Landsborough said they knuckled down in the field as well, something which was missing the week before.
"Our bowlers just bowled very well on the weekend and it was backed up by chat in the field which was the best it has been all year," he said.
"We did field very well, majority of the opportunities that did come to us, did stick and we just enjoyed ourselves out there."
Guyra's second grade team also qualified for the grand final and were due to face The Armidale School.
On Tuesday, Cricket Australia released a recommendation to cancel remaining competition matches across "expects that all Premier and Community Cricket competitions cancel all cricket activity for the remainder of the 2019-20 season."
Central North Zone's Hayley Bullock added to this in a release to associations.
"For all this now means that competitions will be ceased regardless of whether they are completed or not. Cricket Australia also strongly recommends that end of season award presentations be cancelled or postponed in light of the public health environment," she said.
