As it prepares for this year's Armidale Art Prize, the New England Art Society gallery in Beardy Street also gears up for an exhibition called Textures, which will display a range of work in mediums from woodwork to silk printing.
NEAS committee member Tess Cullen said entries for the art prize were just starting to arrive.
"Over the year we run about 16 private exhibitions, which people book, but over the year we also run a couple of art prizes open to members and non-members," Tess said.
"They're called the Daphne Young Watercolour Prize and the Armidale Art Prize.
"In last year's Armidale Art Prize, we had 167 artworks and more than 80 artists involved. So, I imagine this year won't be much different."
Tess expected the gallery to be full of fresh works by local artists again this year.
This year's Armidale Art Prize will run from 6pm on Saturday March 28 until Monday, May 4.
Textures exhibition will feature first though, from Saturday, February 22 to March 23.
A combined exhibition by three New England artists Tess Cullen, Ros Brady and Susan Griffin, it came about because Tess liked exhibitions, but not the stressing over too many works.
"I thought of a combined exhibition and approached Ros first because she's another person who works in 3D," Tess said.
"I do sculptural mosaic pieces and she does beautiful woodwork and I thought it was a nice expression, which is where the name "Textures" came from.
"I do a little painting, but I don't have much time, so then we invited Susan in because she does lovely flowers. She also paints on silk, adding another texture, and here we are today."
Art was Susan's favourite subject at school, yet she has only let it be a central part of her life since retiring from a busy working life.
She loves to work in oils and watercolour and has taken up painting her exquisite florals on silk using silk dyes, although watercolours will always remain her favourite medium.
Having moved to Armidale just over a year ago, she has become an active member with NEAS and her work Roses at Raglan won the Peoples Choice Award at the recent Summer Show exhibition.
