Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray congratulated all the nominees put forward for the 2020 Australia Day awards and said it was important to acknowledge our local heroes who have achieved success and given so much to our community.

Jennifer McGarry - St George Bank branch manager who organised NAIDOC Week afternoon tea. Executive member of Rotary International and Rotary Club of Armidale AM and serves on committee of Hockey New England.
Robin Cameron - Representative of Armidale Horse & Pony Club since 1963 (now life member) and competed with success in showjumping, eventing and endurance riding. A former Pony Club volunteer of the Year, coach for Riding for the Disabled, Armidale Service to Sport Award recipient and dual nominee for Zonta Woman of the Year.
In all other categories:
Zara Blackmore - Chair of Armidale Regional Youth Advisory Committee and member of Headspace Tamworth Youth Reference Group. Volunteer for mental health support and co-founded Female & Fierce not-for-profit group to support women locally, nationally and internationally.
Dr Robin Jones - retired educator passionate about human rights and social justice. Co-founded Armidale Sanctuary Humanitarian Settlement Group, organises Armidale annual Human Rights Lecture and since retiring has volunteered in Thai and African refugee camps to improve their schools and teachers.
John Harvey - served in many community organisations including member of Armidale Show Society since 1950s, set up Country Party Younger Set in 1950s, secretary of Superfine Woolgrowers Association regional branch, founding member and past President of Probus Club, Patron of Armidale City Band. Former President of Dumaresq Shire Council.
Peter Clark - Dedicated and long-standing businessman who has committed half a century to assisting the elderly and people with disability.
Armidale Archers - hosted the 2019 Youth National Championships (attracted 130 competitors and boosted local interest in archery)
Robin Cameron - Service to equestrian activities, including support for pony club and as head coach for Riding for the Disabled Armidale.
Graham Parsons - Armidale Soccer Association volunteer for more than 20 years (president for about 10 years) and President of Armidale Little Athletics for three years.
Paul Billings - President of Armidale Triathlon Club, member of Armidale Athletics Club, New England Mountain Bikers and race director of Duval Dam Buster runs and weekly Armidale Park Run.
Narwan Eels Football Club - developed greater participation of junior teams, including first Under 16 girls team since 2001. Led to greater connectivity for local families.
Armidale Urban Rivercare Group - led by Bruce Whan, AURG has facilitated hydrology and regeneration works on Dumaresq Creek for about 40 years.
Regional Australia Bank - Suicide prevention Charity Golf Day and Dinner in February 2019. It attracted 136 golfers and raised over $35,000.
Robin Cameron - Service to equestrian activities, including support for pony club and as head coach for Riding for the Disabled Armidale.
