Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said developing the Armidale Regional Plan 2040 was an important step in aligning the whole region's planning priorities, to shape its vision for growth and prosperity and provide certainty and direction.
"What we're trying to do is get people from across our regional area to look at how they interact with Armidale, to develop what will be basically a master-plan," he said.
"The region is projected to grow in population by over 26 per cent or more than 8000 people by 2040.
"With the addition of these people comes the need for the current and future community to have certainty around the direction of the region's plans to accommodate that growth."

The finalised Armidale Regional Plan 2040 was scheduled to be put to council for adoption in the second half of 2020.
"Armidale is a regional city, not only for us, but also for people from the wider area," Cr Murray said.
