Uralla Mayor Michael Pearce said the decision was not unanimous, but passed on a majority vote.

"We've got a responsibility to the community to provide them with the best person for the position," he said.
"Council's recruitment consultant will undertake the re-advertising campaign.
"This was a group decision, and council is hoping for a good pool of applicants when the position is advertised."
