With the advantage of a bright, sunny morning and a constant crowd moving through Curtis Park, Armidale Rotary AM Club held its first Farmers' Market on Sunday, November 3, and with the chance of much needed rain predicted for the afternoon it really was a great start to the day.

Rotary AM president Sam Doyle was all smiles as he did the rounds of the stallholders on the day.
"It really went very well and we had a great time," he said.
"We had 30 odd stalls and it was a great atmosphere.
"We're still getting into the grove of the new markets, but still that great farmers' market feel and supporting our local producers in times of drought and hardship, and having a great time in doing it."
Sam said he thought the markets were a good challenge for Rotary AM.
"Getting involved with the local community and projects like this, and evolving things and changing things in a positive way takes time and effort," he said.
"But we have a great team of Rotarians behind us to work with the community to do it. Certainly it isn't an easy job, but a worthwhile one and a rewarding one.
"Part of what we want to do in the Farmers' Market is promote the regional tourism in the area. Show people that there is a lot to offer, not just from Armidale, but from local producers from around the area."

He said having those stallholders from Bellingen, Coffs Harbour and Dorrigo added variety and difference to the community.
"Everyone's doing it tough," Sam said.
"We understand that just as much as anybody.
"I'm asking our farmers to just come along and be part of the social activities. That's why it's an Armidale Community Farmer's Market, so that the whole community can become involved."
