The first grade team are preparing to face the in-form City team with two talented teenagers - Sam Johnson and Olly Schmude - lining up but Heagney would be happy to see more club juniors make the top grade.
"I am happy, if they are performing, for them to take spots off fellas that aren't performing," he said.
"I would be happy to sit aside for them to have a go in first grade, that is for sure.
"You have got to look to the future. There has got to be a changing the guard some time and it looks like it is going to happen with some of these young fellas."
Three other youngsters in Darcy McDermott, Hamish Biddle and Ben Heagney more than held their own in Sunday's senior Connolly Cup representative fixture against Walcha.
"I hope he is a relation," Heagney said of Ben Heagney.
"It was good to see them go well in the rep."
Since taking on the top job at the Hillgrove club at their most recent Annual General Meeting, Heagney has endeavoured to keep an eye on the talent coming through.
"I went and watched them [third grade] the other day, they have got a young fella in there called Mitch Duddy. He is a good little batsman. I reckon he is going to be pretty impressive if he sticks to it," he said.
In terms of first grade, Josh Croft will return to the side this Saturday and will welcome Scott Baker into the team. Although Hillgrove have a strong batting line-up, Heagney said they will also have to be wary of City's bowling attack.
"Karl is always dangerous. Simon Butler seems to get a few wickets as well. They will be the two we have to watch, and Skinner is always consistent," he said.
