This year's competition has been proposed to consist of three divisions - under-15, under-17 and open's - and was due to start on October 12.
Lack of registrations and teams available to play meant the Group pushed back the start date to October 19 but less than a week out from the new start date, there is not enough registered players to begin a competition.
In the under-15 division, three teams - Armidale, Ashford and Warialda - have expressed in joining while the under-17 division has Glen Innes, Narwan and Ashford put forward teams.
In the open's division, Armidale, Narwan, Uralla, Guyra, Glen Innes and Ashford have put forward nominations for teams.
Across all three divisions only 52 players have registered which equals less than five players per team.
Group 19 have given a deadline of 5pm on Wednesday, October 16 for players to register or they will cancel the competition.
The nines competition also acts as a selection trial for the women's 13-a-side tackle team to play in the Greater Northern Championships against Group 4 and Group 21.
"It would be pretty disappointing to not have the nines comp running this year," Group 19 chairman Terry Carson said.
"We had a really good competition last year and there has been plenty of positive feedback from the introduction of women's tackle.
"We saw heaps of talent emerge at last year's comp and it would be a real shame not to see more of that."
