Apprehension was probably the primary feeling when the Bees Nest bushfire raged within our Local Government Area to the north-east of the city. Now, as the RFS continues the fight and residents are evacuated, our community has decided it needs to join the battle.

Greg Cameron is the manager at Allingham's Removals and Storage said they were in the process of loading up a container of community donations to take across to the Dorrigo Evacuation Centre.
"We plan to head out to Dorrigo at 10am tomorrow [September 11] and unload it all," he said.
"It's basically for the firies who are out there working on all the fires.
"But it's also for all the people who have been evacuated from their homes, they don't have any supplies, any water any clothes, and it's all the stuff that they need."

Greg said Allingham's was probably best situated for the task at hand on short notice.
"We are removalists and plus we've got a whole heap of shipping containers there in the yard," he said.
"When Lawrence Ramage contacted us about helping them out down there, we figured we had empty containers sitting here ready to go.
"We figured we had the time and the energy so we might as well do something to help the community, load the truck up and send it down."
Greg said it was a case of chipping in to help others because he believed that sort of thing eventually came back to you, especially in rural areas, when they helped you out.
He said they had enough clothing, bedding and toiletries for the time being.
"The response for the call for these items has thankfully overwhelmed us," Greg said.
He said they needed socks, and snack items such as muesli bars, lollies, trail mix and so on. Berocca or Arbonne essential fizz sticks. lip balm, chap sticks, soft drinks of all kinds and Powerade, Gatorade, Hydralyte.
"The firies are liking having a can of Coke when they have a few minutes to sit down," he said.
Greg said potatoes and onions were also needed, along with some small snap lock bags and colouring in paper.
