Units from NSW Fire and Rescue, NSW Rural Fire Service, Police and Armidale Regional Council were called to the scene about 2pm, and NSW Fire & Rescue Superintendent Wayne Zikan said the smaller fire was at Roseneath Lane.
"Both fires are now under control," he said late on Tuesday.
"We are now at the stage where we are just patrolling the area."
Supt Zirkan said no properties were in danger, but there could be smoke hanging around the city for a while from smouldering logs.
He said if residents saw smoke, they should be careful to determine if they were from Tuesday's two fires before calling Triple 0.

Supt Zirkan also said that emergency services had to deal with a high number of sightseers at the fires, which had made it difficult for some fire crews to get to the scene.
"Please stay away and let the fire services get on with doing their work," Supt Zirkan said.
Fire crews will continue to patrol the fire scenes throughout the night.
