They'll face a confident Bulldogs outfit, who took the direct route to the decider with an emphatic defeat of reigning premiers Inverell in the major semi-final.
Gunnedah's major semi-final win earned them the hosting rights and many have tipped them to go all the way and claim the trophy.
Nomads coach James Treweeke believes it is a deserved favourites but believes his team has what it takes to roll them.
"They [Gunnedah] went to Inverell, smashed them there in the major semi, they have probably been the leading team all year," he said.
"Quite unlucky to miss out on that top spot.
"We love playing them.
"They play a really, really good brand of footy, it is quite similar to ours really so it suits both of us.
"Within the club, quietly confident but we will be coming in with underdogs I think.
"They deserve to be favourites for the weekend but you never know what could happen."
The last time the Nomads and Bulldogs clashed in a grand final was 2017 with the Gunnedah side surging home for a 20-point win.
Prior to that, the Nomads had a five year stronghold on the trophy.
Of those five grand final wins, co-captain Dave Richards received best on ground three times and you can expect the diminutive forward to be in the thick of the action again on Saturday.
"I will throw him forward whenever he wants to, or needs a break, but you can always expect it, he lives for grand finals," Treweeke said.
"You never know what can happen with Modra, especially when he is around the ball in the forward line.
"If it comes down to it, and he does something like that, I will be quite pleased but I think they will be really, really, looking out for him especially so we will have to see who plays on him and how they battle it."
But the Nomads aren't limited to Richards in big game players, they have welcomed back experienced players including Tom Hunt and Clarrie Barker to the fold this year.
"Tommy Hunt, at the start of the year said he would just play the odd game here and there but I kept hassling and he has just commited to the last half of the year," Treweeke said.
"He is someone that everyone would love to have in their team so to have him this year, he just adds that little bit extra for us.
"Clarrie coming back, it is a massive boost for us just with his experience he had when he was away playing good footy.
"All around the ground we have got the experienced heads who have played a lot of footy but grand finals are funny things, it is another step up from finals.
"I am guessing it will be quite a tight game and it will probably come down to the individual moments I suppose that could win it for either team."
