There will be free mulch collection between noon and 4.30pm on each day, and it will also be an opportunity for residents to swap their existing shower head for a more water efficient model.
Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said combining the two programs would help residents to save water inside the house, and to give their gardens a boost during the current restrictions on watering, following a highly successful mulch giveaway at the two waste facilities in May.
"Mulch is great for water saving as it can reduce evaporation from soil by up to 70 per cent," he said.
"The current Level 4 and Level 5 water restrictions ban the use of hoses and irrigation systems to water gardens, so it's more important than ever to save as much moisture in our gardens as possible.
"We're inviting residents to bring their utes, trailers or buckets to the Armidale or Guyra waste facilities to collect up to two cubic metres of free mulch."
It will be limited to one visit per household and deliveries will not be available for the free supply.
Loading facilities are available at each waste management facility, as well as self loading for small amounts.
To receive a water saving shower head, property owners need to:
- Bring in their existing shower head (Stocks are limited and maximum of one per home)
- Provide a water notice for the home to prove address (residents must be connected to town water supply to be eligible)
- Bring a completed application form to show you agree to terms and conditions. Forms can be downloaded from Council's website
Council recommends a licenced plumber remove and replace showerheads. For more information contact Council on 1300 136833.
