The Armidale School's medical nurse Sister Jenny Murray, who cares both for the children and the puppies, realised that there was a natural fit for both to spend time together.
Sister Murray, who volunteers at the local RSPCA volunteer branch, has been bringing the surrendered pups to school for their feeds.
"It's wonderful seeing the reaction of students, whether its touching, feeding or seeing them it just puts smiles on their faces," she said.

In what is a win-win for all, Middle School students are helping socialise abandoned puppies before they are re-homed by the Armidale RSPCA.
Walking the pups around the school Sister Murray said she noticed the students reactions, noticing the pups put smiles on many faces.
Students boarding at TAS say the puppies make school feel even more like a home away from home.
"Because I am a boarder I can't see my own dogs and I miss them, so it's good we can play with the puppies instead. The light brown is my favourite," Bella Fernance said.
Archie Pengilley, a boarder from Moree, said: "Whenever you might be feeling a bit frustrated or sad or not feeling very well, you can play around with them and that makes you happy. We even get in touch with Sister Murray to book them up to play with them during our Advisor time."
"They're really cute and if you've got something on your mind they're good to talk to," Tempe Macarthur-Onslow from Walcha said.
Students visit the pups, before school, morning tea and lunch they return to class calm and ready to learn. The puppies are highly sought after company during class breaks.
Once a month when adopt a pet day is organised in Armidale all the pups are looking for homes.
The RSPCA have the pups micro-chipped, vaccinated and desexed.
