A working group of representatives from local organisations and community groups was formed to plan and facilitate a month-long event to further celebrate the important role our seniors play in the community.

In addition to February's Seniors Week, it was decided a month of celebrations would provide a better time frame to highlight everything on the calendar of events.
National Seniors Workgroup Representative Bev Lilley said Mrs Thelma McCarthy would officially launch the event.

"It will be launched at the Armidale Bowling Club at noon on Friday, August 16," she said.
"Some of the events during the month will include visits to interesting places, morning teas, movies, fitness, art at NERAM, musical presentations and a craft workshop.
"The event will conclude with an information expo with prominent speakers on a variety of subjects of interest to pre and post- retirees."
She said to cater for those still in the workforce, the program of speakers will extend into the early evening and everyone was welcome to attend.
