A massive player turnover coupled with long-term injuries has somewhat disrupted their season.
Coach Evan Quaife admitted the consistency might have cost them a semi-final spot.
"We seem to have a couple away every weekend, something else is on," he said in the lead up to their coming match against South Armidale.
"We just haven't been able to get the results.
"Close games, conceded near the end.
"Haven't played well enough consistently to deserve to make the finals this year.
"I suspect theoretically we could still make the finals but the inconsistency with our game, realistically we are probably not going to make it."
Quaife said the transient nature of the side this year hasn't done them any favours.
"We have done pretty well the last few years and this year we haven't had a successful season," he said.
"With the loss of that many quality players, basically 16 or 17 players who have played first grade for us from last year's team that have not been available.
"If you want an excuse, I expect that is the excuse."
Despite the losses, Quaife is still finding positives from this year.
"In saying that, we have done quite well in some games, we beat FC once and only lost in the last minute in another game," he said.
"We are capable of playing good football, we just haven't got the results in tight games."
Quaife is expecting Saturday's match against the Scorpions to be "tough."
