The Glen Innes Magpies sealed the minor premiership on Sunday after beating the Moree Boars while the Boomerangs sit two points above Narwan in second but their greater points differential indicates the Eels can't finish anywhere but third.
"If Moree loses by 100 points to Armidale and we win by 230 but we are quite happy with third," Eels player-coach John Roberts said.
The Eels will face the Moree Boars this Saturday for their final home game of the season and after two losses on the trot, followed by a bye last weekend, Roberts is just hoping his side can re-find their form.
"It is just about the momentum for us going into the finals, given the fact we have the bye before and bye after, definitely hurts us leading into the finals," he said.
"We have just got to prepare well. Completion rate was very low [against Glen], as it has been all season.
"We have really got to turn that around coming into the finals."
While at times their training and away form has been patchy, Roberts said there have been positive signs over the last two weeks.
"Training has been good, we have been preparing pretty well it is just a matter of the boys turning up on the day," he said.
"It is anyone's game, wherever you go, travel or not, you have just got to turn up.
"The last fortnight was disappointing for us, we didn't travel at all, under-strength and stuff but that was our own fault."
