The Nomads held a tight 4.4-28 to 3.2-20 lead at the end of the first quarter and the Roos kept up with them most of the match with a 6.7-43 to 5.6-36 scoreline at half-time.
In the blustery conditions, the Nomads began to stretch their lead in the third quarter and by the final 20 minutes, the Roos couldn't keep up.
The Nomads kept their opponents goal-less in the final quarter to win the match 14.13-97 to 8.11-59.
Player-coach James Treweeke said the win wreaked havoc on their game plan but they adapted.
"With the weather we had on the weekend I thought we played really well," he said.
"I am the glad the rain stayed away but the wind was terrible.
"I think we adjusted because usually we try and play a high kicking game but we had to adjust that with the weather and the wind.
"We couldn't really kick our way to things like we usually do so we played a bit more of a running and handball game which worked.
"We played an efficient game, we didn't have a lot of ball on our forward line but when we did we made the most of it.
"All things considering, we played pretty well so I was pretty happy."
The previous two matches saw an under-manned Nomads team toppled by Gunnedah and Inverell but with university holidays over, they are beginning to pull together a full-strength team.
Treweeke has welcomed back the university players, as well as Clarrie Barker who ventured to Sydney to play for the North Shore Bombers.
The Nomads are back at home this Saturday for a clash against the fourth-placed Tamworth Swans.
"Very tough opponents again, they have been travelling well again this year," Treweeke said.
"Hoping the weather will be a bit different and we can play some really good footy."
