The court heard he had worked as an apprentice plumber in Armidale before becoming unemployed.
Magistrate Michael Holmes asked Eyers' defence solicitor what his employment prospects were.
The court was told Eyers had managed to complete his roofing trade, although had not been able to find work recently owing to mental health issues.
The magistrate suggested the man return to his hometown of Albury.
"It is clear that you need to return to your hometown and family," Mr Holmes said.
"One word for ice, is crazy, it is dreadful stuff. Don't impede your progress."
Eyers was fined $2000 and disqualified from driving for six months.
