To start the day, a hard-fought league tag battle eventually went the way of the Rams girls. After scores were locked up at 6-all at half-time, Armidale raced home to take the win 24-6.
"I was happy with our defensive effort for entire game," Rams coach Jess Smith said.
"During the first-half we didn't use our attacking plan at all. At half-time we spoke about getting back into that structure and plan we had been working on, and it proved to pay off when we started to use it."
In place of a Narwan under-18 team, Tingha got the win over Armidale 36-28 in the juniors match. In reserve grade, the Eels triumphed over the Rams 46-10.
In A-grade, the Narwan side ran riot over Armidale, winning 82-10 but player-coach John Roberts was far from happy with his team's performance with the ball.
"The score definitely doesn't reflect how poorly we played," he said.
"There was a lot of ball-handling mistakes.
"We weren't even at a high completion rate.
"The first-half was a lot of dropped balls, and the second-half was okay but there was still a lot of handling errors."
Despite his criticism of their attacking play, Roberts lauded their defence.
"Our defence was pretty good, especially our goal line defence, we have been working on it pretty hard.
"Our main focus, goal line defence, it showed when we played against Moree because they hardly broke us, we kept them pretty low."
The formidable triumph marked Narwan's third win in-a-row and puts them in third on the table.
Glen Innes still lead the A-grade competition with Moree Boomerangs in second.
Roberts believes if they continue to improve they could threaten the top teams for a grand final place.
"It is definitely achievable, Glen is only two points in front of the Boomerangs so four points in front of us," he said.
"The boys are starting to gel now, our halves are doing a lot more directing and we are sticking to the game plan.
"It is just that completion rate that needs to improve."
