"We are ready to listen and support you when life gets tough," executive manager Tim Rawson said.
Established in 2001, Centacare NENW provides mental health support and care for individuals, families, and the community, particularly in remote and rural regions.
With a workforce of more than 150, including volunteers, Centacare provides help and creates hope for thousands of people each year across the New England North West.
Services span a range of programs aimed to enhance the wellbeing of families, carers, children and young people through case management and courses, such as the Family Rural Resilience Program and the Rural Parenting Resilience Program.
Centacare also offers programs specifically developed for Aboriginal and CALD communities. Many of their programs are government funded and provided free or at a low cost.
During times of stress and anxiety it can be helpful to:
- Talk about your feelings. Reach out to those around you and talk about what is going on.
- Take care of yourself. Make sure you are looking after your physical and mental health where ever possible. It will provide the energy needed to manage what is happening
- Develop an action plan to get through it. Crisis heightens emotions and makes it difficult to think straight. Writing an action plan can help process thought and plan what steps to take next to get through the challenges.
- Be patient with yourself. Recognise you are doing the best you can with the resources you have, and it is okay to not feel okay all the time.
- Seek help if you need to. Sometimes life can be difficult, scary, or overwhelming. Talking through some of your concerns with a mental health professional could really help you to get back on track. It's okay to ask for a hand; it's a really brave decision.
Centacare NENW seeks a holistic approach to helping individuals, helping provide support in a practical manner that can be used even after your program ceases.
