Many of the candidates travelled the various voting booths, handing out how to vote cards to show their faces in a usual last minute pitch for as many votes as possible.
While incumbent Barnaby Joyce seemed to think better of saying he had done enough to win, Independent candidate Adam Blakester said it would become very interesting if the battle for this seat came down to the wire, with preferences deciding the issue.
How likely that is remains anyone's guess until later tonight, however Barnaby did say he was taking nothing for granted and Adam remained optimistic.
Independent Rob Taber was at Dangarsleigh early this morning to catch the polling booth as it opened, and he cast his vote there. He later returned to Armidale to do the rounds of the booths.
"This election has a different feel about it to the last one," he said.
"It will be interesting to see what sort of a swing goes to the Independents."
All the action was not near the Town Hall in Rusden Street however. Just around the corner in Faulkner Street, outside yesterday's pre-poll booth, Liberal Party member Matthew Tierney had his table set up to field enquiries from absentee interstate voters.
"It's been very pleasant and just busy enough to be worthwhile," he said.
"So far all of my enquiries have been from Queensland.
"But who knows, perhaps I will get someone from Victoria through."
