A day he will be forever linked to the late Prime Minister Bob Hawke.
It was seven years ago, January 4, 2012 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Mr Brandon, or Brando as he's universally known, was enjoying an afternoon with mates at the cricket as Australia took on India.
Hawke was walking through the crowd and Brando and his mates Chris Bramley and Pierre Jennings spotted him.
"We were on an aisle seat," Brandon said. "We spotted Blanche first and I had a photo with her and then there was Bob.
"It was the afternoon session, we had just been to the bar and it just seemed the natural thing to hand him a beer."
To the chants of "one for the country Robert", Hawke, then 82, simply took the cup and downed the contents to raucous cheers before walking away, complete with a thumbs up.
Mr Brandon filmed the encounter and of course the video footage went viral - the clip had 800,000 views in 48 hours, over 1 million in the first week and up to Thursday night 1.6 million views on YouTube.
After news of Mr Hawke's death, by mid Friday morning that number has grown to 1,765,642 views and now doubt will continue to rise in coming days and weeks.
"I suppose it has gone down in folklore," Mr Brandon said.
He reposted the video on his Facebook page on Thursday night after hearing the news of his death with a simple message - Let's all have #oneforthecountry tonight for Bob
"It's been incredible," Brandon said. "It's a day I will never forget.
"Right place, right time.
"I still have that cup at home - it's a prized possession."
And it started a bit of a tradition with Hawkey often repeating the feat when at the cricket.
"His death just brought back so many memories," Brandon said.
And his phone started ringing all over again.
"I had heaps of calls when the video first went up and again on Friday morning the media has been chasing me," he said.
"I still get tagged in posts with the clip regularly and it was even the inspiration for Hawke's Lager!
"His passing has been a sad day for the country. It's pretty clear, even before my brush with Bob how popular he was was.
"The overwhelming support and sympathy his family has received over the last 24n hours from the nation and from all sides of politics, just showed how highly he was regarded."
Numerous comments of Brandon's post paid tribute to Hawke.
"This is the most Australian video I've ever seen. " said one "RIP Bob Hawke, they'll be lots of true blue Aussies tonight sculling beers for you mate!" said an other.
