Norths United will host Demon Knights for round seven of the competition this Saturday.
DK beat East Armidale 6-2 in round six and while he was happy with some of the effort shown, coach Evan Quaife wants his team to lift.
"I thought we lacked a bit of intensity, little bit of work off the ball, getting first to the ball and things," he said.
"We created a couple of really, really, nice goals. Beautiful goals.
"Six, seven passes at the back of the net. Quality goals.
"Just generally, as a coach and what we had seen in the last few weeks, I thought we were down a little bit in where we would like to be."
Jordy Watts has moved on from the side and Reece Habchi will fill the void left there.
Norths have enjoyed two wins from their last two matches and Quaife is expecting his team will come up against a quality outfit.
"I daresay they will be really strong, who they have got, who they had last year plus Jake and Kieran Davies, Jake Mccann from Easts so they will be strong.
"I think there are some old players back, I haven't seen them at all this year.
"We are both evenly placed in the comp so getting the points is probably a big thing for both teams this week."
The Redmen experienced a huge changeover of players in the off-season and coach John Edmunds said they are just starting to come together and play as a team.
"I think that is starting to show in results and starting to score some goals," he said.
"It was more our front-half, more new players to the club and they are just starting to gel in now."
Like Quaife, Edmunds is experiencing a fierce contest.
"Dating back to 15 years ago, it has always been a close battle, no matter where we are on the table," he said.
"I am expecting nothing different this weekend."
Edmunds is expecting a similar team to line up for Norths this Saturday as the one who beat North Companions 4-2.
Across town, win-less East Armidale will face South Armidale who scored a huge 12-1 win over Oxley Vale Attunga last Saturday.
