It is a day for honouring the sacrifices made by every mother to achieve the best for her children, and it recognises that a mother's every waking (and, often, every sleeping) moment is spent worrying about her children.
It's about thanking mum for always putting everyone else first and for never taking quite enough time for herself.

For those who still have their mother with them, today is a day for letting her know just how much she means.
And for those of us who don't, it is a day for reminding ourselves how much she meant and honouring her memory.
Many families were enjoying lunch at Uralla Bowling Club on Sunday to celebrate Mother's Day.
And it had an international flavour.
Jayden from Singapore and Stephen from Hong Kong cooked a brilliant mix of food. One of those enjoying the meal, Trish, commented: "beautiful food - always is!".
