It was a soggy start to the junior rugby league season but that didn't stop hundreds of young players stepping out on to the fields in Glen Innes for the annual Gordon Creighton Cup.

From the under six age group through to the under 16s, players from Group 19 clubs made their way to town for the annual event.
The day was a success and Glen Innes minor league club topped things off by being awarded joint winners, alongside Armidale, of the prestigious cup.
"No one complained about the weather or anything because everyone was saying we need it to rain," Glen Innes minor league president Mark McClelland said.
"I have never seen so many people there actually.
"It was bloody huge."
McClelland highlighted the huge number of youngsters and girls getting involved in the game.
"The amount of under 6s there, the young kids, was unbelievable," he said.
"The girls were the same."
McClelland said income from the canteen was lower than usual but that was to be expected.
"Canteen takings were down a little bit just because it was raining and people didn't want to get wet walking up to the canteen," he said.
"They had a bit of stock left over which is fine because it will get used up this weekend.
"The Lions over at Lynch Oval said their takings were down a little bit but it was worthwhile them going there.
"You would stand there and just be soaking wet.
"We were wet the whole day because there is not much cover and wherever we had a gazebo up there was just people piled in there."
The annual gala day was started as a way to remember local stalwart and league lover Gordon Creighton.
His wife Teresa was on hand to present Glen Innes and Armidale the trophy.
"Teresa Creighton was there to present the Gordon Creighton Cup which was good," McClelland said.
"I think that was the first time we had the family there.
"A big thank you to all the committee and volunteers that helped throughout the day."
Round one of the minor league season begins this Saturday.
First up, Glen Innes host Moree. McClelland believes Glen will be "competitive across all grades."
