The rural fire service has extended the statutory bush fire danger period in the New England area. That means the usual prohibitions on lighting fires extend until the end of April.
The RFS says the "ongoing hot and dry conditions" are to blame for the longer than average fire season.
Northern Tablelands, Tamworth, Namoi-Gwydir and coastal fire control districts are also applying the same prohibition on burning Steve Superintendent Mepham said.
"As always, residents must also notify neighbouring land owners and the local fire authority 24 hours prior to burning," he said.
"These decisions are never made lightly and involve a number of stakeholders from the local area.
"Our overriding concern is the safety of all New England residents and we have acted accordingly by extending the Bush Fire Danger Period until 30th April.
"The 2018-2019 bushfire season has been a very busy one for the New England area with a number of large bushfires occurring and many smaller ones. Now is not the time for anyone to become complacent about the risk of bush fires."
He urged people to develop a fire plan and to report unattended fires.
