Jacob Charles Woods is alleged to have sexually assaulted a then 11-year-old boy while employed at the Armidale boarding school in 2001.
Woods is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16 and one count of aggravated indecent assault of a victim under 16, and is yet to enter pleas.
Some of the details of the case cannot be reported after magistrate Michael Holmes made a non-publication order in Armidale Local Court this week, prohibiting any information tending to identify the alleged victim.

Mr Holmes adjourned the case for charge certification, meaning the DPP can finalise its case against Woods.
Woods made no application for bail and it was formally refused.
It's the police case that Woods was employed at the school in 2001 and allegedly sexually assaulted the 11-year-old student of the school.
Detectives will allege Woods abused the boy in three separate incidents.
The investigation was referred to Armidale detectives after a report to police in 2017.
Woods was arrested in Tamworth and charged in December. He's been behind bars since his arrest.
