The Ben Venue Public School cricket team defeated Guyra Central School on Thursday, March 7.
Ben Venue played Guyra in the round 1 match of the Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) knockout competition in Harris Park.
Guyra Central won the coin toss, and captain Lincoln Brown chose to bat.
It only took until the fourth ball for Myles Harris to clean bowl the Guyra opening batter, Rave Brazier, whilst at the other end Alex Harris struck with an impressive caught and bowled.
This left the Guyra visitors in some trouble, with 2 for 10 after just two overs.
Both opening bowlers kept things tight. Alex Harris kept the batters on their toes; he took another two wickets, including a fantastic catch in slips by Ben Venue captain Sophie Parsons.
Ben Venue bowled Guyra out for only 58 runs off 17 overs.
Ben Venue's best bowlers were Alex Harris (3 for 6 off 3 overs), Baxter Williams (2 for 17 off 3) and Samantha Marshall (1 for 1 off 2).
The Ben Venue opening batters Jared and Cameron Frost looked fairly comfortable in the opening overs, pushing the ball around the field until Cameron was caught behind for 1.
Sophie Parsons was out shortly after from a fantastic delivery that clipped the top of off stump.
Jared Frost lasted to the 8th over, scoring 18 runs, and was cleverly caught at mid off.
Myles and Alex Harris then settled the innings and took Ben Venue to victory, scoring 12 and 6 runs respectively after just 11 overs.
Ben Venue now go on to play Armidale City Public School in round 2.
