With a minimum prize pool of $10,000 and equal prize money between the men’s and women’s divisions, 20 teams have registered.
Inverell Highlander Jock Barnett said 12 men's teams and eight women's teams will battle it out over a tough two days of rugby 7s.
"There's a few local sides. We have a few central north sides coming from Narrabri, Moree and Armidale and even a men's side from Melbourne.
"They've been in Tingha for the last week doing charity work, helping build fences, so they decided to get involved," Barnett said.
Starting from 1pm on Saturday, teams will be pooled. The first day is set to wrap up around 7.30pm before live entertainment kicks off at Rugby Park.
Sunday's games will begin at 9am with the finals around 1pm. Barnett said two fields will be utilised to rotate men's and women's games.
"We've also got food vendors, the bar open all day and kids play equipment. The rugby 7s weekend is family friendly and everyone is welcome to enjoy the live entertainment of the Ford Brothers on Saturday night."
Barnett said the equal prize money was a result of trying to develop the women's 7s competition.
"Coming off the back of our girls getting a grand final win last season we decided on equal prize money to show how much we appreciate our women’s rugby, and that it’s a big part of the club," he said.
Locals are encouraged to head down throughout the weekend to cheer on Inverell's female side and two male sides in the competition.
The 7s weekend is a great pre-season opener for the Inverell Highlanders Club who've already commenced training for 2019.
The club have also secured a new first-grade coach from New Zealand.
