Armidale Regional Airport Business Park was launched less than a fortnight ago when the final $6.5 million was dropped into place by the NSW government to allow the $11 million project to commence. This week, council announced the sale of a block of land worth $2.25 million to the first business to move into the new park.

While mayor Simon Murray could not name the the business, he did say the sale of the 25,000 square metre block would provide an anchor for the park's development.

"It is a single business that has purchased that piece of land. The sale was confirmed by council last Wednesday [February 27]. It is a very good figure and we're very happy about that," Mr Murray said.
This sale follows the opening of the opposite side of the highway to private development. Council resolved at its February Ordinary Monthly Meeting to rezone 53 hectares of land on the eastern side the New England Highway from RU4 Primary Production Small Lots to IN2 Light Industrial, Armidale.
"It is a significant piece of land across the road, and I believe the proponent is going to develop it and subdivide it as a business park," Cr Murray said.
"I think it is a fantastic thing for the Armidale region. There is a shortage of light industrial land available, and I think the rezoning of those two pieces of land has satisfied that need to some extent.
"This also provides huge opportunities for the development of the airport itself."
