Armidale Athletics and Armidale Archers both received grants to improve their respective sports.
Timing at various athletics events will be transferred to an electronic system to give competitors and organisers instant results.
The system is worth around $5000 with the funds coming through the state government's Local Sports Grant Program.
Club representative Paul Billings said owning their own portable mat and timing black box with computer connection will make controlling events much easier.
“And that’s expensive when we do that, but by having our own timing system, it allows us to also donate more funds from these events too,” he said.
The Athletics club runs three major community events which will put the timers to the test - the annual Fun Run, the Campus to City Canter and the Duval Dam Buster trail run.
The Armidale Archers are set to upgrade their security system at their home base with a $1,085 grant.
After a handful of break-ins in the last few years, the club have welcomed the funding boost to add an outdoor security camera system and increase internal safety.
