Karina Belford and Annabel Cullen formed team Blue Moon for this year’s Relay For Life and have already raised about $800 for the event, which is due to commence at 10am on Saturday, February 23. Both women were doing it because cancer had touched their lives.
“I’ve lost both parents,” Karina said.
She has also undergone surgery as a preventative measure. She described her personal stake in the event as massive as she began to cry.

Annabel said they were very pleased with their fundraising efforts so far.
“We have a hundreds board, a guess how many M&Ms are in the jar and Karina and I have created our own raffles,” Annabel said.
“I went around local businesses and just asked whether they would be interested in helping us out in creating the raffles by donating vouchers or items that they may have. My dad has donated a trailer load of wood, that I think I have to go help cut on Friday.

“Every business that I went into and asked was happy to donate and have donated.”
Karina thought they also had the weekend at Relay For Life as well.
“Everybody’s pretty much in the same boat. We can get the public to come down to the track and come in and buy lunches and whatever we’re selling. We’ll keep pushing, keep getting raffle tickets sold whatever it takes,” she said.
Karina said she was unsure how she would handle the 45 minute Candlelight Ceremony.
Beginning at 8.30pm, the ceremony will be a chance to remember loved ones and include a lone piper and a didgeridoo player plus a photo tribute. Registrations will be needed upon arrival.
