Hosted by New South Wales Disaster Recovery, a meeting was held yesterday to connect people with services needed to begin the recovery process.
Representatives from Disaster Welfare, Local Land Services, Inverell Shire Council, Family and Community Services, Rural Fire Service and Rural Mental Health were on deck to provide information.
A spokesperson from the Disaster Recovery Team said arranging emergency accommodation was a vital first step, along with organising food and water.

“People are able to access a range of services. Local Land Services are organising emergency fodder and animal welfare. The Rural Fire Service is keeping people updated on the fire which is under control but there is still advice on safety when returning home and being care of ashes,” he said.
Rural Mental Health services are also available at the point to ensure the health and wellbeing of directly impacted residents.
“A bushfire has a huge emotional impact on people, especially if you’ve lost property. It’s normal to feel anxiety or have trouble sleeping and these services are here to help along that journey.”
NSW Disaster Recovery understands every disaster, and every community, is different and are “here to listen and adjust to those needs”.
“We’re not interested in posing one particular model on the people of Tingha. We’re here to give the community what is needed and to connect them to services needed to recover.”
The recovery point will be opened until tomorrow evening, with a possibility of extending if needed. However, Disaster Welfare, LLS and Rural Mental Health will be offering outreach services.
The spokesperson also warned residents wishing to help those impacted by fires to think before donating big items.
“It is much better to donate money so people can use it for what is really needed. Head to the Salvation Army website, they have a donation tab for disaster relief and you can specify Tingha.”
NSW Disaster Recovery also understand if people aren’t ready to go out in public which is why residents can contact the Disaster Welfare Assistance Line on 1800 018 444. Also, if residents need support on welfare assessment, destruction, fodder or water, call the LLS team a call on 1800 814 647.
