“At current count, that was 1100 kids,” said Ms Lasker.

“We’ve got 27 demountables, they’re all brand new and fully air conditioned, and they’re all up and running.

“Most of those demountables have been fitted with flexible furniture and often they are double demountables. So, there’s a bit of team teaching happening in those spaces too.”

Ms Lasker said they were the envy of everyone at the moment.

“They are very comfortable in this heat. They’re all brand new, carpeted, they’re lovely,” she said.

Changes were made to the Edwards Bus Service timetable during the school holidays, which Ms Lasker said were really well communicated to parents via all schools facebook pages and websites.

“Edwards are taking calls and there were radio announcements. I think the thing is with our site, it is just a matter of kids getting used to the new system,” she said.

“There’s a bit of congestion at the peak times – in the morning and in the afternoon – but certainly the RMS and the council have been on site doing some trafic studies and will produce a traffic management as an outcome of that.

“In the interim, we’ve just got lots of staff on duty, making sure kids are crossing roads safely and all that sort of thing.”

Ms Lasker said because so much transition between sites was done, the staff were settling in quite well.

“We’re still finding our way. It’s confusing finding new rooms and new spaces and that sort of thing,” she said.

“But, everyone’s feeling really positive and the kids are excited and look fantastic in their new uniforms. 

“Of course there will be some settling in that needs to happen. Its day-by-day and things are really positive.”

Ms Lasker said although the construction happening on the old Armidale High School site seemed a little surreal, she was really keen to see things start moving along.
