The roundup hosts various education sessions and competitions, allowing participants to learn from industry professionals, without the need to supply their own livestock. It is an excellent opportunity for young beef enthusiasts to learn from some extremely experienced members of the industry.
Roundup co-ordinator Zac McInerney said even though the event was drought affected this year it could still draw 170 head of cattle to Armidale Exhibition Centre.

“It really shows how strong the agricultural community is,” Zac said.
“It’s a fantastic thing for mental health, is to get people off their farms and interacting and networking with others, even though back home there is a difficult situation going on in many parts.”
“But it has been fantastic so far. You get those kids who are a little bit nervous coming in, it might be their first show or they don’t have that cliquie network that they had last year, to the other end where you get those kids who only see each other every 12 months and they kick off like they had only seen each other last week.”
Zac thought the networking opportunities were the best part of the roundup. He said Armidale had only just held a roundup two years ago.
“Armidale was very lucky to get it here again. It’s 100 years of Angus in Armidale so it’s great to be back in town and really good to see the support of the guys in the local area,” he said.
