Police followed the vehicle which reached speeds of 155 km/hour in the 100 km/hour zone and covered a distance of 40km along the New England Highway.
Road spikes were deployed at Tenterfield. The driver attempted to avoid the deployment site and lost control of the vehicle and collided with an armco railing before stopping the vehicle. The driver and passenger arrested at the scene.
The 18-year-old male driver from Queensland was charged with seven offences, including Receive stolen property, Use vehicle with unauthorised plate affixed, Exceed speed limit, Police pursuit, drive recklessly, Unlicensed, Use unregistered/uninsured motor vehicle.
The 24-year-old female passenger had an outstanding arrest warrant for an Aggravated break and enter and Commit serious indictable offence in company; bail was refused, both to appear in the Armidale Court January 1.
