With the 2018 HSC results delivered to households throughout Armidale, it was probably an appropriate time to release artists impressions of the new $117 million Armidale Secondary College to be made up of an amalgamation of Duval and Armidale high schools and built on a levelled Armidale High School site.

The only building to be left standing on the Armidale high site will be the original school building, and it will be renovated for purpose.
Principal of the new college Caroline Lasker said she was very excited about the facility.

“We’re really working towards the new ways of teaching and learning. That will commence next year, but to come back to a facility that will really lend itself to those styles of teaching is super exciting,” she said.
She said in a way the teaching would be more receptive to student needs with more potential for individual learning plans for students.
“We’ve been experimenting a lot over the last 12 months with project-based learning and enquiry-based learning, so those things really bring into the learning cross curriculum,” she said.
“So it’s not just about Maths, or Science or English, it’s about blending those key learning areas to make more authentic learning experiences for the kids.
“More real world learning experiences and often more hands-on learning experiences for the kids so they can make relevance between what they’re learning and the real world.”
When releasing the images the Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall said students from Armidale High School would be attending Duval High School while the secondary college was built by Richard Crookes Constructions.
“There has been no decision made about what will happen to Duval High School buildings after it is vacant,” he said.
Secondary college school uniforms are now available for next year.
