The matter of a 53-year-old Inverell man who cannot be identified to protect the identity of his seven alleged victims, came up for mention in the Armidale District Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Judge McLennan adjourned the matter for mention in Central Court in Sydney on January 31 next year.
The matter took about 10 minutes, with Judge McLennan estimating the trial was likely to take between four and 10 weeks, so would be better resourced if heard in a Sydney court.

Police allege the man sexually or indecently abused seven young girls, aged under 16 at the time, in the Inverell area between 2002 and 2012.
The first charges were laid in June last year and date back 15 years. Lawyers for the accused have said their client wanted to find the quickest pathway to get the matter to trial.
The accused remains in custody and is bail refused.
