On Monday, investigators confirmed they had been made aware of further information that could be connected to the suspicious blaze that destroyed the Beardy Street building on September 16, 2016.

A coronial inquiry into the suspicious blaze earlier this year found the fire was deliberately lit but there wasn’t enough evidence to determine who was behind it. 

“Detectives will review any further information that is sent to us,” Detective Sergeant Matt Crotty told The Armidale Express on Monday.

“Investigators have become aware that there may exist some further information and we’re awaiting receipt of that.”

The site is set to become the new base for the APVMA, which the federal government controversially moved from Canberra to Armidale.

The open finding by the coroner means the investigation will remain with police if new evidence or information comes to light.

The coroner found one or more persons poured petrol through the premises and then set fire to the building, sparking an explosion before dawn.

In the coronial inquiry, coroner Michael Holmes said a former contractor and club employee who had suicided was a coincidence and “his death was related to unresolved personal issues”.

Coroner Holmes said based on the evidence before him, “police have not found any evidence connecting any identifiable person or persons as a subject of interest”.
