Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson announced two funding packages worth a total of $1,135,525 for a purpose built community gym and the upgrade of the Walcha pool under the Stronger Country Communities Fund.
Mr Anderson said the Walcha community gym project received $935,610 and aims to provide a secure facility with enough space for the everyone in the community.
There is also $199,915 so the entrance to Walcha Pool will be relocated so that the gym, pool, and squash facilities share a common entry.
“This is fantastic news for the people of Walcha and district,” Mr Anderson said.
“These projects meet the needs of the community by ensuring that there is an effective, safe and centrally-located facility that can be accessed by all.”
The new gym facility and pool renovations were two of four proposals put forward in April by Walcha Council seeking community support. Both of them received the majority of residents backing.
“Because we know opportunities to provide gym and pool facilities of this nature on a commercial basis are limited, the proposed upgrade will have far reaching effects in the Walcha community,” Mr Anderson said.
The community gym complex is essential to residents to maintain and enhance community spirit, morale and wellbeing.

“The community gym complex is essential to residents to maintain and enhance community spirit, morale and wellbeing.
“Council tells me they strongly believe that attendance numbers, particularly at the new gym, will increase significantly, with positive impacts on attendance expected at the pool and squash courts.
“I congratulate Walcha Council and look forward to the local sports and community facility improvements that will make the region an even more attractive place to work and raise a family.”
Walcha has the only community run gym in Mr Anderson’s electorate and is one of very few in New South Wales.
