The brother and sister duo Sophie and Stuart Parsons represented North West at the NSW Primary Schools Championships.
Stuart captained the North West boys and Sophie skippered the North West girls.
They both excelled, earning accolades from their performances and leadership on the field.
“It was a great opportunity down there to play against the highest quality players in our state and Australia,” Stuart said.
“It was really tough down there, playing 50 over cricket each day for four days and at the end of the carnival we ended up with a win and I was awarded the player of the carnival.
“I didn't realise what an achievement it was until we started playing and how hard it was to select the bowlers and keep at the same time for 50 overs straight.”
Year five student Sophie was the youngest in her team.
Not only did she skipper them to three wins, Sophie was picked in the NSW team to contest the national championships next month in Perth.
“It was hard because I was probably the most experienced out of all the girls.
“It was hard working out when to put on the bowlers, like Stuart said, and knowing how they play because I didn't go to any trainings because I was away.”
A bowler by trade, Sophie also shined with the bat.
“I also got the highest score out of the whole carnival – I got 53 and we had to retire on 50 so luckily I hit a four. Our team won three games and they were pretty good games,” she said.
