Grills along with the race caller had conceded his horse Melted Moments had run a close second behind De La Hoya.

However, it was a photo finish that revealed Melted moments had come up trumps, winning by 0.1 of a length.

“There was no confusion, I think everyone at the track thought he had come second,” Grills said.

“I was pretty surprised when I was told after the race, I really didn’t think he’d got there.

“He is a legend though and took that last half a length before the post really quickly.”

“It was the first time Leah has ridden him,” Grills said.

“She did a great job because he is not the easiest to ride first up.

“The field went pretty quickly which suited him and Leah made her move at the 700 metre mark and got him home from there.”

Grills said he will now turn his attention to Grafton next Monday before a potential shot at the Inverell Cup.

“He always runs well at Grafton,” he said.

“I would say 1400 metres is about his distance and he has won at Grafton over that distance before.

“From there, we will look at a few races in Armidale before looking towards the Inverell cup.

“The conditions have to be right for him there though.

“He doesn’t like the heat so if it is a bit too hot, say 38 degrees, then we may have to reconsider, but otherwise that’s the plan at this stage.”
