Armidale District Cricket Association are one step closer in reaching their goal of developing an indoor cricket centre. Association president Mike Porter has been pushing for an indoor centre to be built for five years to accommodate training in the colder months.

A 36 metre long by 15 metre wide facility worth around $250,000 is proposed for the Armidale Sportsground.
“It is an indoor training facility which will double as, if we wish to play indoor cricket, we can play it in there by pulling the nets back and setting up one centre wicket,” Porter said.
“It will allow for four indoor cricket nets.
“We will also have it set up so netball can train there if they wish to at night and in wintertime because there is not actually many places they can train in winter time.
“A lot of our rep squads and things train right through winter and it is extremely cold in Armidale in the middle of winter.”
“Also some of the zone squads come here to train in the off-season as well so we will be able to accommodate them indoors which will be great.”
Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall delivered nearly $40,000 from the ICC World T20 Cricket Legacy Fund on Wednesday to get them closer to the goal.
“Five years, we have tried for a number of grants and failed,” Porter said.
“This is the first one we have actually got.
“We have money from Armidale Sports Council, Armidale District Cricket and now some money from the T20 Legacy Fund from the state government so it is helping us on our way.”
