Boxing enthusiasts from near and far packed out the services club auditorium on Saturday evening to watch the action-packed event.
Dean Waters was first up, taking on Nyngan’s James Fisk.
Waters’ coach Rob Porter said he impressed but missed out on the win.
“Dean gave it everything he had. He boxed really well but unfortunately didn’t get the win,” Porter said.
“It’s not always about getting the win it’s about going out there and having fun and learning along the way.
“The first fights are always the hardest as you don’t know what is going to happen or how good your opponent is going to be.”
Next up was Liam McIntyre making his debut in the ring.
He took on fellow first-time boxer and Moree local Jack Ross.
The fight came down to a very close split-point decision, with the local boy named the winner but the fight was that good that both of the boys took home fighters of the night.
“Both boys put on a show for the local crowd who were roaring,” Porter said.
“Liam is a very strong, talented, young boxer who I believe could go a very long way in this sport.
“This boy has a huge boxing future ahead of him.”
The final Armidale boxer was Roger Scott who took on Inverell’s Nathan Kraus with both heavyweights facing their first fight.
Kraus took the win but Porter said he “is proud of all his boxers and can’t wait to get them back in the gym to train harder for their next fights.”
