Youman believes the popularity of the tackle tournament for women was evident on Saturday at the first round in Inverell and said there should be more of it.
“I loved it, would much prefer to be playing it over tag during the normal season,” she said.
Youman and the majority of the Spuds team who turned out for the first round hadn’t played tackle before but put their hands up to give it a go for this year’s tournament.

Guyra faced the highly-fancied Glen Innes side first up and were downed 12-nil.
They then took on a tenacious Warialda Wombats outfit, missing out on a win 18-4.
“It was a lot easier than I thought, once I worked out what I was doing I found it better,” Youman said.
“The first game against Glen I was a bit lost but felt like I gathered myself during the second game against Warialda.
“Considering only a couple of our team had played before I think we went pretty good, we didn’t win, but I think we went better then we expected.
“I guess I just enjoyed finally getting to play league, playing with a good group of friends and got to play with my little cousin so that was good.”
Youman also said it gave her a greater appreciation for what players who participate in tackle go through week-in, week-out, though it was worth it.
“I learned that I feel sorry for the boys when they play every week, woke up so sore!” she said.
“Majority of the team loved it, it was so much fun and heard a few people in the crowd say how entertaining it was and how good the level of football was.”
There was a mix of experience, youth and newcomers to tackle rugby league on display for the first week of the nines.
Competition was fierce but the feedback from the across the board was that it was fun as well.
“Yeah I guess it was really competitive, I enjoyed played Glen because I knew a few of the girls so we had a bit of a laugh,” Youman said.
“Warialda were more serious.”
The competition is back at Inverell’s Kamilaroi Oval again this Saturday with Guyra playing the first game at 1pm against Narwan.
Their second match will be against the Boomerangs at 2.40pm.
“I am not nervous this week like I was last week, more excited,” Youman said.
“I can’t wait to play!”
