Meg Lye and Simon Di Luzio are the new school captains.
“We’ll hopefully be role models for the rest of the school students,” Simon said.
"We want to get as many of the students involved in as many things possible – whether it be sporting, academic, or cultural aspects," Meg said.
Their first duty will be to meet the apostolic nunzio to Australia, H.E. Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana, on Monday, and take him on a school tour.
They’re looking forward to working with the rest of the school leadership team.
Harry Simpson and Maria Alkhouri are vice captains. Kaitlynn Turley and Oliver Ryder are arts captains, in charge of creative and performing arts. Laura Di Luzio, Simon’s sister, and Nicholas Andrews are faith and service captains, managing charitable donations like Vinnie’s. Chyna Smith and Jackson Gwynne are sports captains.
"It's a really great team of student leaders,” principal Regina Menz said. “They're really important in our O'Connor community, because they give a voice to students.
“I'm really excited to have another great bunch of students to work with for the rest of 2018 and into 2019.”
She meets regularly once a week with the leadership team to look at how they can improve the learning for all at our school.
"One of the joys of our community is that students can be an individual; there are lots of ways they can excel at our school,” Ms Menz said.
“We pride ourselves on our academic tradition and our pastoral academic care. We look after every student, and know and value every student, but there's something here for everyone. If you love music, you can excel. If you love sport, you can excel. It's just a great place for all students."
