President of the Armidale Central Rotary Club, Kristyn Barker, is hoping to establish a strong branch of Rotaract, open to people aged of 18 to 30 in the Armidale, Guyra, Walcha and Bundarra area.

“Me being 26, I obviously fall smack bang in the middle of that, but my interest obviously lies with Rotary and Rotaract is something I am trying to step up and get going,” Kristyn said.
“This has actually been a bit of a baby of mine for a couple of years. We’ve finally got the green light and we’re really trying to push through with it.

“For the longevity of the club, the variance and that spice and trying to project our reach as far as we can, I think it’s important to include the towns around us. Having said that, our members are all from Armidale, but we’re hoping to change that and will be getting around all the clubs before Christmas.
We are capable, we are enthusiastic and we really think we can join forces with the different groups in the community and make a physical impact.

Kristyn said New England Rotaract had seven members, but needs between 12 and 15, and a bank account with $US50 in it, to be chartered. To remain a club projects and goals needed to be set and achieved throughout the year.
“One of the boys in the club came up with the hashtag of #rotaction, because Rotaract is “Rotary In Action”. And we really want to live up to that, we want to get out there and make an impact, instead of just splashing money around,” Kristyn said.
