Armidale is taking steps to address both of these issues, and has invited Dr Helena Popovic to give two free talks on Tuesday, October 9.

The first presentation is about How to Boost Your Brain and Defy Dementia - at Armidale Library, 10.30am.
The second presentation is: The Missing Piece in the Weight Loss Puzzle - at UNE, 5.30pm.
Dr Popovic is a medical doctor, best-selling author, international speaker, and expert on preventing dementia and overcoming obesity.
“The two subjects are not as disparate as they seem,” Dr Popovic said. “Midlife obesity and type 2 diabetes double the risk of dementia. If we can avoid gaining excess body fat, we will go a long way to averting a dementia epidemic.”
Boost Your Brain and Defy Dementia
For decades, we’ve believed that brain function declines as we age. Neuroscience has revealed this is not the case. We can stay as sharp at 90 as we were at 30.
Discover how to Boost Your Brain and Defy Dementia on Tuesday, October 9, 10.30am at the Armidale Library.
Dr Popovic’s philosophy is that education is more powerful than medication, and she believes in slow ageing despite fast living. She speaks from a personal and professional perspective.
She shared her mother’s journey with lung cancer, and now her father’s adventure with dementia. Everything she speaks and writes about, she practices with her father.

The Missing Piece in the Weight Loss Puzzle
Are you unhappy about your body weight?
Are you sick of dieting and regaining weight?
Are you frustrated by all the contradictory food and weight loss advice you're bombarded with?
Dr Popovic will speak at UNE 5.30pm on Tuesday, October 9 about how to Shed Excess Body Fat without dieting or deprivation.
“No pills, powders, potions, or surgery,” Dr Popovic said. “The key to weight management is rewiring your brain. You’ll walk out with a Mind Plan rather than a meal plan.”
Dr Popovic’s NeuroSlimming – Let Your Brain Change Your Body won the Bronze Medal in the international Living Now Awards, which recognise the year’s best books for better living.
