I say this not because we were kept in the competition by three field goals but because of my disappointment in off-field behaviour. I thought Serena’s tantrum on court was bad enough, but those people our children look up to can also prove less than honourable off-field.
I am thankful that the NRL’s integrity unit have acted swiftly to deal with the bare-bottomed Bulldogs and the less-picturesque Bunnies.
When Rabbits start sexting...
Rabbits are renowned for breeding but when Rabbits start sexting, they reveal just how unimpressive they really are.
Equally unimpressive is a football club who does nothing in response to a complaint. The foolishness of inaction has been made obvious in the past weeks by media exposure.
To clarify, that is different exposure from the exposure being reported on.
No matter which way we view this matter… sorry, bad choice of words… the South Sydney Rabbits will be affected. No matter how you see things… oops, bad choice again… our community is affected.
What were they thinking? It may come as no surprise to you but I have never met people who think it’s a good idea to suddenly photograph their privates for others to view.
What were they thinking? Well they weren’t. Braindead would be apt description of such foolishness.
The foolish footballer undermines family values
There is so much to grieve about the foolish footballer. As parents warn their children about the dangers of sexting, the foolish footballer undermines family values.
Are we surprised that a young woman not sent flowers by a lover but messages from the depraved would react unhappily?
If she had not responded unhappily what would that say about the woman? Is it not disappointing that the sexual is debased by the foolish footballer?
How will a parent ever teach a child or teen the value and beauty of sex when the foolish footballer so diminishes it? What lessons are taught us when management considers a game more important than dignity shown a person?
God made us male and female and the beauty of sex is meant to be enjoyed in the privacy of an intimate, loving, life-long relationship. Such a context assumes the deepest of trust, protects the dignity of one another and makes beautiful that which the foolish footballer makes lude and dirty.
The sexting of foolish footballers may appear to be a small thing… sorry, that is a poor use of words again… but the outcomes are much more significant.
The betrayal of trust, the disrespect of the individual, the bringing of club and game into disrepute, and the poor example set, is lamentable.
When a father has to warn their daughters to avoid NRL footballers then the NRL, the clubs and the footballers of good character have a huge problem.
Wise footballers need to exert peer pressure on the foolish while the NRL and the clubs need to discipline them.
Some might consider this article a betrayal of my Rabbits allegiance. Not at all. I am, with people like me, the best fan for a rugby league club because I will not compromise the integrity of the game, the club or the NRL for the convenience of the foolish.
Everyone is responsible...
I will not compromise the dignity of every fan or wise footballer by thinking winning is more important than respecting the dignity of people and the precious lives of impressionable children.
I will keep waving my red and green, but sadly a little lower than usual.
As a postscript, the NRL integrity unit might like to give some thought to football TV programming.
Some shows are put on late for more adult viewers but is it possible that some programming makes for the childish and foolish behaviour of some footballers, making humorous what is unhelpful.
Everyone is responsible for the reputation of the game.
